Snibston is preparing its Community Gallery space for the return of the annual exhibition from King Edward VII Science & Sport Specialist College in Coalville.  The highly popular display will consist of a variety of visual media including paintings, photography, textiles and 3D design.

The exhibition showcases the students’ work which is the result of an artistic tour of Florence and Tuscany. The Design Faculty at the college have organised these inspirational visits for students for the past seventeen years and in the past have included other cultural destinations such as Barcelona and Venice.

This year the decision to go to Florence was based on its important and influential history as the birthplace of the Italian Renaissance and the subsequent development of western art as we know it. Its early rulers nurtured talents and artists such as Michelangelo, Caravaggio and Da Vinci, and its rich architecture and heritage continues to inspire creativity today.

Students spent five weeks preceding the visit researching the significance of the Renaissance and four weeks afterwards creating their pieces. The exhibition contains all of their work which forms part of their examination coursework.

Mike Burton, Head of Design said:

“We had a very rewarding experience in Florence and are delighted to bring this collection of work back to Snibston for public viewing. The gallery space at the attraction provides students with a rare chance to display their work and to let the public interact with it. The students always receive very encouraging and positive feedback about their work from Snibston’s visitors.”

Snibston’s Curator Carolyn Abel said:

“We’re delighted that students from King Edward VII school have returned to show their fabulous art works at Snibston again.  The work is always of such a consistently high standard and we’re really pleased to be able show our support for one of our thriving local colleges.”

The exhibition is free to view and is on display in the Community Gallery in Snibston’s main foyer from 21st March to the 24th April.
