Anti-drugs posters go up across North West Leicestershire
PC Graham Hall with Lee Firetto from Ciros Nightclub in Ashby
An anti-drugs poster designed for the police by a student from Stephenson College in Coalville, is being put up in pubs, night clubs, schools and colleges across North West Leicestershire.
PC 1819 Graham Hall from Coalville police station enlisted the help of students at the local college to design an anti-drugs poster with a hard hitting message. He was impressed by the hard work and professional results of the student's efforts.
PC Hall said; "The idea came about because I arrested a young 17 year old man who was in possession of Class ‘A' drugs and it got me thinking about how taking and dealing drugs can ruin young lives. I wanted the poster to convey a message about the serious consequences of being caught with drugs and finding yourself in the criminal justice system which can have a permanent and detrimental effect on a young person's future. I approached Stephenson College and they were delighted to take up the challenge and tasked 14 students to come up with a design as part of their course work."
After much deliberation, a panel of judges chose the winning poster which was designed by eighteen year old Jacob Baugh.
PC Hall continued; "Jacob's design captures what we wanted to achieve. I think the simplicity of the poster gets the message across in a few seconds, which is important in a busy nightclub or school environment."
The poster simply says ‘Worth Jail?' and the letters are designed using different drugs such as an ecstasy tablet, syringe and cannabis leaf.
One of the owners of Ciros Night Club in Ashby de la Zouch, Lee Firetto, was one of the first to display the posters in his premises. He said; "We work hard here to make sure drugs don't come into the venue, and local people know that, so we are pleased to support the police's campaign."
