24 November 2008 Tree planting at new 10M school in National Forest

Photo opportunity: To mark National Tree Planting Week - this week, Leicestershire County Council, is planting a variety of trees around the campus of the new Forest Way Area Special, sited in the National Forest in Coalville.

To mark the occasion, Roger Wilson, Vice-Chairman of the County Council, is planting a special commemorative Oak tree together with some help from  staff and pupils from Forest Way School, Castle Rock High School, King Edward VII Community College and Warrren Hills Primary School.  The ceremony is taking place at 1.20 pm on Wednesday 26th November. A representative from the National Forest will also be attending.

The new £10 million area special school is nearing completion and will open in January 2009.  It will accommodate 125 pupils aged from 3 to 19 and will contain a range of facilities including a hydrotherapy pool, multi sensory rooms and science and design rooms.  This is the third new area special school to be built in Leicestershire over the last five years and is one of eight new schools built in the County.

Roger Wilson, Vice-Chairman of the County Council, said:

"The new school is set in some wonderful surroundings and it is extremely appropriate to be planting a tree in the National Forest itself this week.  I am delighted to be able to meet with some of the children and staff from the local area."
