A new Whitwick bus service designed to meet residents' needs takes to the road this week.

A mini-bus is being brought in by the County Council to provide essential links from East Whitwick to shops and the centre of Coalville.

This will offer three return journeys a day from Thursday to Saturday and connect with services to Leicester.

A 'demand responsive service' will also be extended to cover more parts of the village from next Monday (8th December) - this offers bookable, door-to-door, taxi transport to a number of destinations.

The move comes after County Council Leader David Parsons met residents in the summer to discuss their concerns at the withdrawal of the number 12 service.

To mark the launch this Thursday (4th December), County Council Deputy Leader Nicholas Rushton will travel on the new mini-bus and talk to residents.

David Parsons said: "I have met with concerned residents in the area and listened to their comments and am really pleased that the County Council has been able to improve transport in the east of Whitwick.

"I would urge all those residents who have campaigned for this service to use this new facility.”

The new mini-bus will serve the King Richard's Hill area and starts this Thursday (4th December). It will be operated by Coalville Yellow Cabs. Details of the service and printed copies of timetables are available upon request by calling 0116 305 8777 or e-mailing the passenger transport unit. Alternatively, view a copy on our website.

The 'demand responsive transport' service was originally introduced to serve the St Bernard's Road area but will also include Temple Hill and King Richard's Hill from next Monday (8th December). It will continue to operate on Mondays to Wednesdays.
