Handbag theft at supermarket in Coalville

Police are appealing for witnesses following the theft of a handbag at the Morrison's supermarket on Whitwick Road in Coalville.

The incident happened sometime between 1pm and 1.30pm on Wednesday January 28, 2009, when the victim, a woman in her 80s, noticed that her handbag had been stolen from the seat of her shopping trolley.

A cash card and a substantial amount of money was stolen.                                                                                      

PC Sarah Gerrard, who is investigating the incident, said: "The elderly victim was left devastated after this incident and I would urge anybody with any information to contact police.

"I am particularly keen to trace a group of three women who were seen near the trolley a short time before the incident and would appeal to them to come forward or to anyone who remembers seeing them to get in touch."
