19 February 2009 Celebrating our youth

Photo Opportunity: Young people from North West Leicestershire will receive special recognition for their achievements at a celebration event later this week.  The event is taking place at Stephenson College in Coalville at 7pm on Thursday 19th February.

The Chairman of Leicestershire County Council, Tony Kershaw, will congratulate the young people on their commitment and contribution made to positive activities through youth clubs in their area.

Some of the young people have been on award programmes which have presented physically and mentally challenging outdoor activities; others have excelled in sport,  have undertaken volunteering in the local community, or have developed cookery skills.  All of them have achieved something unique to them.

Tony Kershaw, Chairman of the County Council, said:

"The County Council's  youth service has some really dedicated youth workers and volunteers who do some great work with young people.  They help to provide the opportunities and guidance to unlock the potential in  people so that they can develop and shine.

"All these young people are great role models for others.  The celebration evening will help to highlight them in a positive way and I would like to congratulate them all on their success!"
