Cyclists are being invited to take their bikes along to The Oval in Coalville on Saturday 15th August 2009 to have them post coded free of charge.

The two beat officers for Greenhill and Agar Nook, PC 4330 Miranda Gent and PC 786 Ryan Hayes will be available to mark bikes using a Paint Stick, which involves painting the owners post code onto the bike and covering it with a layer of lacquer to seal it. The post code is put in a discreet but easily accessible location on the bike frame.

The post coding has been organised following the success of a previous event on Botts Way in Coalville in July in which thirty bikes were marked. Officers will also be giving away a number of free bike locks.

PC Gent said; The post coding can be done in a matter of minutes and can help us reunite owners with their bikes if they are ever stolen or lost. In our experience bikes that are overtly marked are more likely to be left behind or ignored by the thief.

We were really pleased with the response we had to the event on Botts Way because we managed to post code thirty bikes so we thought wed hold a similar event in another location so that more people could benefit from the free service. We dont have a particular problem with bike thefts on the beat but post coding them will help us keep it that way! We would like to encourage as many people as possible to come along.

The event is being held on The Oval in Coalville, near to the park, on Saturday 15th August between 2pm and 4 pm.
