Snibston Discovery Museum has welcomed its two millionth visitor, just 17 years after it opened.

The Fletcher family from Lutterworth gained their place in Snibstons history when they visited the County Councils award-winning, Coalville-based attraction yesterday (Wednesday).

They received a VIP pass, which included free entry, a train ride, a private colliery tour, free lunch and a goodie bag for the kids.

Mrs Fletcher said: What a surprise! We had no idea we would be the two millionth visitors at Snibston; its been a real treat for the whole family. Oliver (aged 8) really enjoyed the train; Ethan (aged 6) just loved the interactive educational displays, especially Wild Water, and Lydia (aged 4) found great fun in the indoor under 5s area. Weve certainly been treated to a V.I.P day, which we will all remember as a fabulous day out.

Roger Wilson, the Chairman of Leicestershire County Council, congratulated the family on becoming the two millionth visitors. He said: This is a major milestone for Snibston and just goes to show how popular an attraction it is in Leicestershire. The museum has so many things to offer people. The Fletcher family were completely taken by surprise when they realised what was going on and went on to have a lovely day enjoying all of the attractions.

Snibston is set on the site of a former colliery and consists of an award-winning interactive museum, colliery buildings of national significance, the Century Theatre and a 100-acre country park and nature reserve.

The museum displays a rich and diverse collection of historical objects, telling the story of technology and design, and how it has affected everyday life from the past to the present and into the future.
