police, constabulary, leicestershire policeThird bike post coding event being held in Coalville

The Neighbourhood Beat Team for Greenhill and Agar Nook in Coalville will be post coding bicycles, free of charge, on Sunday 4th October 2009.

Following the success of two previous events, the officers will be in the lay by off Kenmore Crescent in Coalville between 2pm and 4pm. Everyone is welcome to bring their bikes along not just residents of the Kenmore Crescent Estate.

The two beat officers for Greenhill and Agar Nook, PC 4330 Miranda Gent and PC 786 Ryan Hayes will be mark the bikes using a Paint Stick, which involves painting the owners post code onto the bike and covering it with a layer of lacquer to seal it. The post code is put in a discreet but easily accessible location on the bike frame.

Officers will also be giving away a number of free bike locks.

PC Hayes said; Our two previous post-coding events have proved very popular and weve post coded more than sixty bikes for adults and children. The post coding can be done in a matter of minutes and can help us reunite owners with their bikes if they are ever stolen or lost. In our experience bikes that are overtly marked are more likely to be left behind or ignored by the thief.

We dont have a particular problem with bike thefts on the beat but post coding them will help us keep it that way! We would like to encourage as many people as possible to come along to Kenmore Crescent on Sunday.
