Residents in North West Leicestershire say 'Not in My Neighbourhood'
Residents of North West Leicestershire are taking to the streets for a week of action to tackle crime and anti-social behaviour.
Thousands of people up and down the country are joining forces with crime-fighting professionals for a week of community action.Not in My Neighbourhood Week, which runs from Monday 2 November 2009to Friday 6 November 2009 aims to promote what is being done locally to tackle crime and anti-social behaviour and encourages the police, public services and communities to work together to keep our streets safe.
Resident organisations, neighbourhood policing teams, local authorities, Neighbourhood Watch, anti-social behaviour teams and drug and alcohol action teams from across England and Wales are leading the efforts to inform local people of what is being done in their area.
Home Office Minister Alan Campbell said: We can only tackle crime and anti-social behaviour by working together and thats what Not in My Neighbourhood Week is all about.
An enormous amount of work is being done every day to make communities safer and when people see this for themselves, it in turn makes them feel safer and encourages them to get involved.
Community Safety Champion for North West Leicestershire District Council, Councillor Trevor Pendleton said: We have a lot of activities planned in North West Leicestershire over the week to encourage residents to let us know what their concerns are, and to work with us to help make their neighbourhoods more safe and pleasant places to live.
In over 80 areas across England and Wales, local residents can get involved in activity that is being taken in their neighbourhoods to tackle crime and disorder.
More than 60 events have been planned across North West Leicestershire during the week and events are running on every one of the eleven beats across the policing area. Details of all events can be found at: www.leics.police.uk.
Inspector Chris Brown, Commander of North West Leicestershire Local Policing Unit, said; We have a very comprehensive list of activities running throughout the week designed to increase awareness among local communities about what the police and other local agencies are doing to tackle crime and anti-social behaviour. These events have been advertised locally and I would really urge local residents to get involved. Not only is it a great way to get to know your beat officers but it is a chance to really influence local policing priorities and have your voice heard.
Events in North West Leicestershire include litter picks, patchwalks and school assemblies. The Police, Council Officers, Youth Offending Service, Youth Service, Drug Services, Neighbourhood Watch and Fire Service are just some of the services that will be involved throughout the week of action.
Throughout the week the Police beat bus will tour the district providing local people with the opportunity to engage with a range of community safety services. Advice and information will be available. Locations include;
