18 November 2009Swedish students get highways experience

Two students from Sweden have been spending the week working for Leicestershire County Council, on an exchange visit.

Sebastian Halling and Jens Pettersson, both 18, from Vasteras near Stockholm, have been in Leicestershire on a two week exchange as part of their course at Edstromska MFT College.

They spent a week at the County Councils Highways depot at Croft, where they were shadowing vehicle workshop technicians.

The visit was arranged by Stephenson College, Coalville, which funds the programme which has been in operation for over a year now.

Back in October, two County Council Highways trainees went to Sweden as part of their NVQ level 2 course.

Nigel Leigh, Principal at Stephenson College, said: A number of Swedish exchange visits have already happened and due to the positive feedback we have received from the students and Edstromska MFT alike, we are keen to keep this relationship going.

We are thankful to the County Council for helping to facilitate this exchange. It has been really beneficial to the students and those who have been on an exchange gained an enhanced learning experience.

Lesley Pendleton, County Council Cabinet Member for Highways and Transportation at Leicestershire County Council, said This is a great opportunity for trainee vehicle technicians to gain a wider appreciation of industry processes and techniques here in the UK.

We hope that their learning experiences are sure to benefit their work back at home.
