Detectives are appealing for information after a robbery at Emporium nightclub in Coalville.

The incident happened at around 7.15am on New Years Day (Friday January 1, 2010) once the club on Belvoir Road had closed.

The owner and a member of staff were cashing up in the office whilst another member of staff was loading equipment into a car parked at the back of the club.

Four men claiming to be police officers dressed with fluorescent jackets approached the member of staff and asked to come inside and see the owner.

Once inside the club, they made their way to the office where they assaulted the owner and the other member of staff before tying them up.

They made off with a substantial amount of cash from the safe and got into a white van parked at the back of the club.

One of the men is described as being of Asian appearance, of stocky build and around 510 tall.

Detective Constable Alf Doyle, who is investigating this incident, said: "We would like to hear from anybody who saw or heard anything suspicious in the area at the time.

"Think back, were you walking or driving down Belvoir Road at around 7.15am on Friday morning? Were you making your way home after being out celebrating the New Year? Did you see anybody matching these descriptions entering the back of the club? If so, then please contact us.

It is also important to remind people that police officers and detectives always carry identification with them. If you are not sure, take their details and call the police to verify they are genuine officers.

"If you did see what happened, know who was responsible or have any information regarding the robbery then we want to hear from you. If you do not want to give your details, any information you give to uswill be treated in confidence, so please get in touch."

Anyone with any information is asked to contact DC 170 Alf Doyle on Leicester (0116) 222 2222, follow the instructions to leave a message for a police officer and when prompted key in the officer's identification number 0170. Alternatively contact Crimestoppers, which is free* and anonymous on 0800 555 111.
