Coalville, LE67 3DW: There will be a chance to take a pic Buffet Car trainee Louisa Hallam with Howard, who received his dog Doree thanks to Hearing Dogs for the Deaf ***
A Coalville-based catering training scheme for adults with learning difficulties has raised more than 3,000 towards Hearing Dogs for Deaf People.
The Buffet Car, which is run by Leicestershire County Council, hosted a dinner and dance fundraising event last month in Thringstone, where nearly 100 guests attended.
Money was raised through ticket sales and a raffle, totalling to an impressive 3319,05.
Guests were entertained by a live band and an evening meal which was arranged and catered by staff from the scheme.
The Buffet Car, which is based in the Springboard Centre and this year celebrates its 25th anniversary, trains adults with learning disabilities and offers an NVQ level 1 qualification for quick service, as well as the food safety certificate.
It has been supporting the Hearing Dogs for Deaf People charity since 2007 and has now raised nearly 5,000.
David Sprason, Cabinet Member for Adult Social Care and Health, said: This charity provides a life-line to people with hearing difficulties and relies solely on donations.
The enthusiasm of the staff and trainees is reflected in the impressive amount that was raised.
Scheme Manager Alison McLoughlin said: We thoroughly enjoy fundraising and organising events for Hearing Dogs for Deaf People. We also run a Book Exchange, where donated books are sold to add to the fundraising.
Louisa Hallam, a trainee with the scheme for two years said: I have been involved with the fundraising for Hearing Dogs during my time with the Buffet Car.
I really enjoy meeting people and their dogs who benefit from the charity.
Steve Muxworthy, area co-ordinator for Hearing Dogs for Deaf People, said:
Hearing Dogs for Deaf People are so grateful for the ongoing support of The Buffet Car, its staff and supporters. We were pleased to attend the wonderful evening on Dec 5 and consider the generosity of the people involved was only matched by the superb quality of the meal.
Our thanks go to all of those involved their efforts have helped another deaf person achieve greater independence.
The buffet car has been given a three star award by inspectors from North West Leicestershire District Council the higest award given.
