Police in Ashby say 'put it in the bin'.

police, constabulary, leicestershire policePolice in Ashby say 'put it in the bin'.

Ashby police are stepping up targeted patrols to tackle anti-social behaviour and litter dropping in the areas of Bath Grounds, Hood Park and Ashby Castle.

These patrols are as a result of an increase in the level of complaints from local residents, who feel that with some intervention from various authorities will lead to a tidier place for all to enjoy.

Ashby police will be working with the anti-social behaviour (ASB) team from Coalville police station and officers from North West Leicestershire District Council to talk to people who drop litter and, where appropriate, a penalty of between 50 and 80 will be issued.

The police and council are both keen to increase the awareness of the issues and catch the persistent offenders. The awareness campaign will include the use of disposable ash trays and a portable Bluetooth messaging unit, which sends a message at no cost to Bluetooth enabled mobile phones with a message regarding the penalties for dropping litter. This technology is being used once again in the area and Inspector Chris Brown, Commander of North West Leicestershire Local Policing Unit said; We are always looking for new ways to get our messages through to young people and we know that this technology will assist with our campaign. We hope that sending messages out in this way will make people think about the detrimental affect dropping litter has on the local community.
