Walking Week ties in with Leicestershire County Councils Choose How You Move campaign to help people get fit, save money, have fun and help the environment.

Lesley Pendleton, County Council Cabinet Member for Environment and Transport, said: There is an exciting array of interesting, quirky and educational walks taking place across Leicestershire during Walking Week.

Walking is great it boosts physical and mental wellbeing and is an easy way to stay fit. It is also an excuse to leave the car behind, cutting down on pollution, and explore the nature and history of an area.

During Walking Week there is something for everyone and we hope people of all ages will take part in this celebration.

Andy Reed, Chairman of Leicester-Shire & Rutland Sport, said: There are some excellent walking groups and fantastic places to walk and we hope many people will be inspired to walk and get more active during Leicestershire Walking Week 2011.
