Volunteers recognised at Strawberry Tea event

A special Strawberry Tea event is being held to recognise the wonderful work of volunteers in Leicestershire.

More than 350 volunteers have been invited to the event which is being held at Donington le Heath Manor House near Coalville on Thursday, June 2nd from 3.30pm 5pm.

The event is being held by Leicestershire County Council during national Volunteers Week which runs each year from June 1st 7th. The aim of Volunteers Week is to focus on and celebrate the work of volunteers and volunteering throughout the country. Its also an opportunity to arrange events to say a special thank you to all the volunteers who give their time to benefit their local community.

The aim of the Leicestershire County Council event is to say a special thank you for all the hard work and commitment by volunteers in its Communities and Wellbeing service over the past year.

Guests can enjoy strawberry-themed goodies such as strawberry cheesecake, fresh strawberries and cream and pink lemonade.

Volunteers are involved in a wide range of activities from the county councils home library service, which delivers books to people who find it difficult to get to a library, volunteers at the county councils record office and within its museums.

Amongst those also invited are volunteers who helped excavate and record the Hallaton Treasure find, now on display at Harborough Museum, volunteers from the Collections Resource Centre who store, catalogue and conserve exhibits, volunteers who run lunch clubs and those who help at events and research local history.

There will be 23 certificates of achievement presented to individual volunteers and teams of volunteers, all of whom have done particularly outstanding work over the past year by the Chairman of Leicestershire County Council, Jackie Dickinson.

County Council Chairman Jackie Dickinson said: Volunteers in Leicestershire make a superb contribution to life in our communities.

I hope this event goes some way to showing how much their tremendous efforts are appreciated.
