Ashby police are delighted with the resounding success of Operation Headley, targeting anti-social behaviour and littering.

During the month of May this initiative was run in the areas of the Bath Grounds, Hood Park and Ashby Castle by the Northwest Leicestershire Street Enforcement teams and officers from Coalville police Station. Officers used a Bluetooth device which transmitted a message to mobile phones to warn visitors of parks about littering and the associated penalty. The devise was also used at local schools and other public areas and this has proved an excellent way of getting the message across about respecting the environment. Operation Headley officers also carried out both uniformed and plain clothes patrols, advising a number of people about their behaviour.

Members of the local community have told officers how much better the parks, such as the Bath Grounds, are looking and local officers are going to keep running this initiative with other local beat teams and the street cleansing teams.

Sarah Jenkins of North West Leicestershire District Council Street Enforcement Department said; We are really delighted with this initiative and it is an superb example of using technology and partner agencies working together to achieve excellent results for the communities that we serve.

Looking forward, officers from Coalville Police station hope to build on this success and intend to use the Bluetooth devise to tackle other forms of anti-social behaviour throughout North West Leicestershire in the coming months.
