New bus deal just the ticket for commuters

Commuters are urged to leave the car at home and use new money-saving tickets to sample travelling to work by bus.

Today Leicestershire County Council is launching new weekly passes for the 148 and 155 services to enable people to sample the bus at reduced cost.

Costing 18, the deal offers a huge saving of 40 per cent or 12 a week and covers routes running from Sharnford to Leicester and Coalville to Castle Donington.

Information about the new deal is landing on residents' doormats along the routes and is also available from libraries.

The campaign is run in partnership with bus companies to show that bus travel is convenient, could save time and money and is a 'green' alternative.

Lesley Pendleton, Leicestershire County Council cabinet member for environment and transport, said: "Bus travel is a hassle-free and environmentally-friendly travel option and we hope that people will use the new weekly tickets to give it a try.

"Reducing the number of cars on the road also helps to tackle congestion and I hope that the offer will encourage a number of people to think about changing their travel habits."

Service 148 runs between Leicester, Fosse Park, Grove Park, Enderby, Thurlaston, Potters Marston, Stoney Stanton, Sapcote and Sharnford

Service 155 runs between Agar Nook, Coalville, Sinope, Coleorton, Newbold, Worthington, Breedon-on-the-Hill, Tonge, Isley Walton, Pegasus Business Park, East Midlands Airport and Castle Donington.

To find out more, please call Leicestershire County Council on 0116 305 0002 or visit the website at: www.leics.gov.uk/transport_promotions.

The deal is part of Leicestershire County Council's 'Choose How You Move' campaign which helps people to get fit, save money, have fun and help the environment.
