Come along on a tour of historic Coalville

Come along on a fascinating journey back through Coalvilles industrial past and enjoy a train ride on Snibstons famous colliery railway. The Miners Morning Tour of Historic Coalville is taking place on Thursday 21st July at 10.30am and will commence at the towns historic Snibston Discovery Museum.

Local Leicestershire historian, Denis Baker, is leading the hour-long walking tour enabling participants to study the development of the industrial town, looking at how Coalville has developed and changed over the years and visiting the sites of historic and important buildings in the area. The train ride on the historic Snibston railway features as part of the tour.

Snibston Discovery Museum which includes the former Snibston Colliery, created by George Stephenson, was scheduled by the government as one of five nationally important sites in Britain in 1999. The museum owned by Leicestershire County Council, attracts over 100,000 visitors a year and hosts some of Leicestershires biggest events including those at the heart of the community such as its Miners Gala, Transport Festival and fabulous Fireworks Spectacular. The museum is also home to the largest Fashion Gallery outside London and has an extensive gallery dedicated to transport and engineering.
