Students Rack Up Record Results

Leicestershire's young people are celebrating after notching-up record post-16 results.

The figures, which are provisional at this stage, look set to be the County's best ever and show that most schools have reported rises.

They reveal that the average points score is expected to increase for each student as well as for each qualification and that Leicestershire will compare well with the national average and 'like authorities' - these have a similar socio-economic profile.

Provisional results show several schools have improved on their performance last year. These include: William Bradford Community College in Earl Shilton, John Cleveland College in Hinckley and King Edward VII Science and Sport College in Coalville.

Results need to be confirmed by the Department for Education and will not be available in published performance tables until the new year.

Graham Hart, Leicestershire County Council's Cabinet Support Member for the Children and Young People's Service, said: "Early indications are that this is a record year for Leicestershire's post-16 students.

"We are delighted to note the success of young people which is testament to all their hard work.

"I would like to wish them all the best in higher education, further training or employment."

Students who need guidance after receiving their results should seek help firstly from their own schools or colleges where staff will available to give advice on different options available. Connexions can also provide further advice either through schools and colleges or local Connexions centres.

More information on Connexions is available on its website - www.connexions-leics.org
