Drama production takes visitors through a condensed history of Britain
An entertaining drama performance that takes the audience through a whistle stop tour of 8,000 years of British history is taking place next week.
The show entitled, A Condensed History of Britain is by Greg Chapman and will be on at the Century Theatre at Snibston Discovery Museum in Coalville on Friday 16th September.
From around 6500-6000 BC when the land bridge that once linked Britain to Europe finally disappeared under the sea for the last time, right up to the present day, Greg takes the audience on a whistle stop tour of the history of our island, packing over 8,000 years into an hour and a half!
Using comedy, magic, music and a couple of characters along the way, this is a night of entertainment during which members of the audience might just learn something. (Advanced booking is advised to avoid disappointment. Tickets are priced at 6 in advance and 8 at the door).
The Century Theatre is hosting a number of events during September including:
- Miners Gala at the Century Theatre, Saturday 17th September from 10am-5pm. (Free event)
The theatre will be hosting a number of acts as part of Snibstons Miners Gala including performances from Expressions Dance Academy, Leicester City Male Voice Choir and The Six Jolly Miners. For more information please look on: www.snibston.com/minersgala
- Tabla taster session on Tuesday 13th September. (Free Event)
Learn how to play the Indian talking drum at our after school sessions. Suitable for children aged 6 and over, this wonderful instrument is great for developing co-ordination and exploring rhythms and patterns. Try it out at the free taster session before booking your place on the classes. Classes start on 20th September (5 per class or book all 7 for 30).
- Joe Broughton and Kevin Dempsey in association with the Moira Furnace Folk Festival on Saturday 24th September.
Talented guitarist and singer-songwriter Kevin Dempsey meets stellar violinist Joe Broughton. Having toured throughout Europe and receiving regular air-time on BBC Radio 2 for their collaborative albums, Dempsey and Broughton play a mixture of British and Eastern European folk influenced by world music and jazz. (Tickets: Advance 6, Door 8)
To book tickets for any of these events please call: 01530 278444 email: centurytheatre@leics.gov.uk or purchase tickets at the reception at Snibston during museum opening hours. More information can also be found on: www.centurytheatre.co.uk
Background information:
Snibston is the home of the Century Theatre which is the largest item in the Leicestershire County Councils museum collections. Built between 1948 and 1952, it was used as a travelling theatre until 1974. Its innovative structure provides an auditorium for 200 people and a full-size stage, yet it can still be packed away into four articulated lorry trailers!
