58,000 Big Society boost for 15 schemes
Projects to extend a community centre, launch a good neighbour scheme and provide debt advice are among those to benefit from 58,000 of the county councils Big Society funding.
The news comes after Leicestershire County Councils Big Society fund backed bids for 15 new community initiatives.
Successful bids include:

5,000 to extend Ibstocks Palace Community Centre
3,847 to Clawson, Hose and Harby parish council to pilot a Good Neighbour Scheme, where volunteers will support people in need
Nick Rushton, the county councils deputy leader and Big Society champion, said: Im delighted that weve received such a wide variety of bids, which will make a real difference to communities across the county.
Cabinet support member Blake Pain, who chaired the grant panel, said: This is the Big Society in action the community coming up with great ideas and the council helping them to turn them into reality.
Its part of the council's support for the Government's Big Society, which aims to enable people to take key decisions over their lives, to run local services, to develop community facilities and encourage others to take part in their community.
