Wedding partnership helps save 850,000
Leicestershire County Council is launching a new register office in a district council's HQ, to help improve services and save 850,000.
An agreement has been signed between North West Leicestershire District Council and Leicestershire County Council to move the area's registration service into Coalville's Whitwick Road offices.
It's part of the county council's move to have fewer, better offices and share facilities with district councils, to help save 850,000 per year.
The 1930s-built offices in Whitwick Road, Coalville, are being renovated to create attractive wedding rooms from spring 2012.
Nick Rushton, Portfolio Holder for Corporate Services at North West Leicestershire District Council, said: We are pleased to be working with the county council on the relocation of the registration service to the original council building. This is a great use of what is a striking building in the heart of Coalville, and we look forward to the registration service joining us in 2012.
Byron Rhodes, Cabinet Member for Regulatory Services at Leicestershire County Council, said: Joining forces with the district council will enable us to offer a more attractive venue for weddings and ceremonies and contribute to our plan to save 850,000 per year from buildings.
The district councils services, including the Customer Serivces centre, will continue to operate as normal during the renovation work.
